Round 8 - Aberfeldie
Tuesday, 1 December 2009

With the team results only just released from the Round 9 meet at Coburg last weekend, it's timely to report on the big turn out for the twilight meet at Aberfeldie for Round 8 on 1 December, with a record number of athletes turning out to enjoy the warm to mild conditions. The club's U14 girls were third by just five points, the U16 girls were fourth, U16 boys were third by just four points, the 40+ men were again second but the U20 men won their division for the first time. At the conclusion of the round, the U14 girls remain third, the U20 men are second and the 40 + men are still on top of their ladder

Three athletes made their debut for the Harriers. Kayne Davies (M16) showed he is a talent of the future with 5:12.13 in the 1500 m, Reed Cathcart (M16) recorded the equal highest jump of any Coburg athlete this season in the High Jump and Simone Wright (F14) proved her field credentials with third place in the Javelin

With so many athletes at the track, club records were plenty. Well done to Bethanie Barbour (F14) who won the 2000 m Walk and broke the F13 club record in the process. Amber Dominutti broke the F13 record for 80 m Hurdles, while Patrick Martin broke the M13 record in the 90 m Hurdles. Maddy Black broke the 400 m record for F13 girls on the way to third place for the U14 girls team and Luke Dragon broke the 3000 m for U14 boys

Wins went to Leah Polycarpou (F14) in the 1500 m, Ivan Galletti (M40) in the 100 m, Sam Dragon (M20) in the 3000 m with third in the 1500 m, Michael Clark (M20) and David Woods (M40) won the 400 m. Kira Davey (F16) was first in the High Jump, Stephen Wright (M40) won the Triple Jump with third in the High Jump, Pam Sievers (F1) was first in the Discus and third in the Javelin

Shane Wilson (M16) was runner up in the 1500 m and 3000 m, Leigh Roux (F14) was second in the 1500 m as was Matthew Smith (M20). Tim Erickson (M40) was second in the Walk, Steven Marsh (M20) was second in the 400 m, and Chelsea Wright (F16) was second in the Javelin. Maddy Black (F14) was third in the 3000 m. Matt Mifsud (M20) was third in the 100 m, Philip Curtain (M40) was third in the Discus, Shaun Stewart (M16) was third in the Javelin while Philip van Dueren (M40) came third in the 3000 m and Javelin

On Thursday is the Coburg Masters Venue Christmas break up. Cost is around $10 for dinner and Santa will be paying a visit. If you require further details, please let me know

This Saturday morning the Brian Delaney middle distance squad will be training from 8:00 am. Venue to be confirmed but best to turn up to training tomorrow (Thursday) night for further details. Further, the last pre-Christmas official training session for the Delaney stable will be on Tuesday, 22 December. Please bring a plate so that we can have our Christmas break up at the conclusion of training

Are you bringing your IGA shopping dockets down to the track? The club has set itself - in conjunction with Coburg Little Athletics - to raise funds to ensure the track we all enjoy training and competing on can be re-laid in a couple of years time. To assist us in that goal we need all members to bring their IGA dockets to the track so we can go into the draw to win $3,500 which will greatly assist us in reaching our shared goal. Let's keep them coming in
