2009/10 AV Shield - North West Region Round 6 - Meadowglen Saturday, 21 November 2009 The team results are in from then Round 6 meet held at Meadowglen over a week ago. Well done to our Men's 40 + team who won their fourth meet in a row and to our U14 girls, U16 boys and U20 men who all finished third. At the conclusion of the round the club's U14 girls had consolidated their third place on the ladder, both our U16 girls and U16 boys had narrowed the gap on the final four, the U20 men were equal second on percentage while our defending North West Region champion 40 + plus men's team had extended their lead at the top of their ladder
Athletes to do well were Pam Sievers (F1) who won the Discus, Stephen Wright (M40) won the Javelin and was runner up in the Triple Jump, Sam Dragon (M20) won the 400 m and was second in the 1500 m, Tim Erickson (M40) yet again was victorious in the Walk, Gary Hennessy (M40) won the 100 m while Leah Polycarpou (F14) won both the 1500 m and 2000 m Steeplechase. The steeple also saw wins to Shane Wilson (M16) in the 2000 m junior event - smashing his own club record from a few rounds earlier - with Luke Dragon (M16) coming third and Liam Magee (M1) won the senior 3000 m event
Michael Dziadkiewicz (M20) was second in the 100 m, Ivan Galletti (M40) was second in the 100 m, Philip van Dueren (M40) was second in the 1500 m, Damian Burton (M40) secured good points with second in the 3000 m Steeplechase, Philip Curtain (M40) was second in the Discus while David Woods (M40) was second in the 400 m. Amber Dominutti (F14) had a good afternoon with third in the 80 m Hurdles and Discus, Alana Guerin (F16) was third in the Triple Jump and Thomas Clarke capped off a good day for our U16 boys team with third in the Discus
Tomorrow (Tuesday) night, we are back at the Moonee Valley Athletics Track in Aberfeldie from 6:00 pm. A program is attached. The sprint hurdles and the 2000 m Walk will kick off the track events for the evening, while the elite field events begin at 6:00 pm with only the Discus open to all athletes from that time. The sprinters can enjoy the 100 m, 400 m and 4 x 100 m Relay. The middle distance athletes have the 1500 m and 3000 m, the jump events are the afore-mentioned Sprint Hurdles and High Jump plus Triple Jump. Events not on the program this week include the Shot Put and Hammer
As we are now into the second half of the season, attention turns to which events are in the region final and what athletes have qualified in. Accordingly, this week we look to strengthen our 4 x 400 m Relay teams for the final by ensuring that as many of you as possible compete in the 400 m. If you want to run the relay in the final, you need an individual 400 m time recorded. Juniors, if you want to run the 3000 m in the finals you have an opportunity to qualify tomorrow night by competing in this event and for all athletes - the High Jump is also on the Region Final program and you should make a point to compete in this tomorrow night if you want this as one of your events for the final
Many thanks to our many tireless volunteers who helped to make our annual Coburg Lake Classic fun run such a success last Sunday. Despite a major fun run being held in the city, we had an excellent turnout notwithstanding and your fun run committee was very pleased with how smoothly everything ran. These events are a major source of revenue for the club and help to keep your membership fee's at an affordable level
Are you bringing your IGA shopping dockets down to the track? The club has set itself - in conjunction with Coburg Little Athletics - to raise funds to ensure the track we all enjoy training and competing on can be re-laid in a couple of years time. To assist us in that goal we need all members to bring their IGA dockets to the track so we can go into the draw to win $3,500 which will greatly assist us in reaching our shared goal. Let's keep them coming in
Some of our Coburg Harriers have been performing particularly well recently. Well done to Stella Radford who was second in her age group at the recent Olympic Dream 10 km fun run and to Leah Polycarpou who won the 1500 m at the Pan Hellenic Games held at Olympic Park over the weekend. Which is a beautiful segue into saying good luck Leah for this weekend's Australian All School's national championships being held in Hobart
