Well done to Coburg Harriers member Matthew Smith who competed this week in the final of the Athletics Victoria Schools Knockout competition for his school Broadford Secondary College

Smith competed in the 800 metres and 3000 metres and his good results helped his school secure the bronze medall

In a tight finish for the minor placings in the 800 metres, Smith was edged on the line into third place by just four tenths of a second. Notably, Smith's time of 2.06.54 would have placed him among the top three Coburg Harriers last summer season

The 3,000 metres, over which Smith has competed several times in AV Shield competition, saw a similarly tight battle but this time for line honours. At the finish Smith was just two seconds from first place, crossing the line second in a creditable 9.48.25

Some great times there and sets Smith up for a good summer season, jusrt around the corner. Well done Matthew from all your friends at the Coburg Harriers
