2009 Victorian Masters Track & Field Championships Box Hill 27 - 28 March 2009 The Coburg Harriers were well represented at these Championships with four athletes competing in ten events
Gary Hennessy, coach of elite athlete Bola Lawal, competed in the 100 m in the 45-49 age group where he was involved in a three way dead heat for fourth place. Hennessy’s time of 12.50 seconds had an age grading of 11.45 seconds which saw him with the sixth fastest time in the event
Jeremy Grey competed in the 30-34 years section of the 1500 metres. In a combined age group event, Grey went out hard early and held on to finish second overall but take the gold for his age group in 4:17.42. No age grading was applied to this time
Joe Brown had a busy weekend with four events in the 60-64 section. In the 60 m, Brown finished second with 8.89 seconds and an age grading of 7.30 seconds
The 100 m and 200 m saw similar results with second placing in both. Brown recorded 13.97 seconds in the 100 metres and 29.04 seconds in the 200 metres – a remarkable age grading of 11.62 seconds and 23.23 seconds respectively!
The 400 metres saw Brown perform possibly his most impressive sprint race of the championships. The Coburg Harriers second gold medal was secured in 64.82 seconds with an age grading of 52.61 seconds
Ken Carter competed in four events in the 55-59 category, with his best result being fourth in the Discus with 25.33 metres, an age grading of 28.52 metres
Carter also placed 5th in the Hammer with 20.47 metres, 7th in the Shot Put with 7.71 metres and 8th in the 200 metres with an age graded time of 36.21 seconds
Well done to all athletes on their performances and bringing two gold and three silver home to the Harriers
For those involved with the Coburg Masters, George Goode in the 80-84 class, won gold in the High Jump and silver in the 100 m and 200 m. While Fiona Ely was busy with her best results being 1st in the 60 m, 2nd in the 200 m and Shot Put with bronze in the Discus
