2008/09 High Velocity Club - Meet 4
Aberfeldie - Thursday, 12 February 2009

The fourth meeting of the High Velocity Club was an evening event held in very windy conditions. The Coburg Harriers had their best representation for one of these specialist meets, with four athletes in action, one of whom would break the club's 200 m record for their age group

First up was Craig Brown in the 100 m. Graded in the first heat, Brown ran one of his best times fo the season to record 10.95 seconds and finish fourth in the elite field. Brown was involved in a blanket finish that saw 0.08 seconds between second and fifth

Heat three saw the super talented Ron Carroll stable runner Michael Dziadkiewicz. This U18 athlete. Dizadkiewicz ran strongly in a race that did not lend itself to fast times with the field spread out at the finish. Nevertheless, second place was a great results, and 11.66 seconds was not far off those in the heat two

The 200 metre heats were up next and heat one featured Craig Brown, this experienced pro runner backing up to compete the sprint double. Barely an hour after his earlier run, Brown would finish in fifth place, recording 21.92 seconds - again one of his quickest of the season and Brown enters the closing stages of the summer in good form. Several days later he would finish in fourth place at the prestigious Ballarat Gift, two places behind another Coburg Harrier in Bola Lawal

And in the women's section of the 200 m was U16 athlete Ellie Thom who relished the cooler conditions than those extreme temperatures experienced at the third High Velocity Club meeting in late January. Graded in Heat 2, Thom's 25.44 seconds secured her second place in Heat 2 - a time that would have seen her finish mid-fiield in Heat 1. Furthermore, this improved her own club age group record over the distance

Well done to all athletes on their performances. The sprinting stocks at this club are arguably the best in our 112 year history and it's exciting to be a part of that, so well done
