Congratulations to Coburg Harrier Bola Lawel on his inclusion in the Victorian team that competed in the Australian Athletics Cup on Saturday, 7 February 2009.  Lawel 's first event was the 100 m B race. Into a 0.4 metres per second tailwind, Bola ran a strong race to finish first in 10.54 seconds. In a clear signal to the selectors, Lawel's time (and that of the runner up, also a fellow Victorian) were quicker than the top two in the A Heat

Bola followed up this performance with the anchor leg for the Victorian 4 x 100 m Relay team. In a super quick time, the team captured the gold, crossing the line first in 39.92 seconds, just half a second off the Australian state team record

Despite two first placings, Lawel's efforts were not enough to see Victoria defend their 2008 title and the team would later finish in second place
