Box Hill - Meet 1

Warm but blustery conditions greeted athletes for the first Victorian Milers Club meet of the 2008/09 summer track & field season. To coincide with the opening of the newly re-laid Box Hill track, the Coburg Harriers were represented in the 3000 metre event by John Braszell, Josh Persson, Liam Magee and Jeremy Grey

First home for the club and in third place overall was Jeremy Grey with 9:34.09, showing some promising early season form. Grey would run 1 km splits of 3:09, 3:12 and 3:13 to eclise his previous best time by three seconds and is looking forward to injury free summer

Next home for the club and tenth overall was Liam Magee. With a goal time in mind of sub ten minutes, Magee was on track until the last few laps. Nevertheless. Magee only missed the mark by the barest of margins and had not had the best preparation going into the event. Look for big things from this athlete over the coming summer

The suprise packet of the day was the performance of John Braszell. After an excellent winter season where Braszell was in line for most improved honours, this athlete smashed his best time from last summer over the distance. A remarkable 10:19 has club officials very excited and Braszell could play a pivotal role in the success of the club's 40+ division this season

And last but certainly not least 16 year old Josh Persson was very impressive in recording 10:47.42. Like Braszell, Persson has had a very solid winter base on which to mount his 2008/09 summer campaign and this performance took some twenty seconds off of his personal  best time over the distance
