Pacific School Games Trials
Olympic Park
12 - 14 September 2008

The Coburg Harriers had four athletes representing their schools at the trials for the Pacific School Games to be held in Canberra

First up was Adrianna Crea in the 100 metres for U17 girls. Representing Academy of Mary Immaculate, Crea finished sixth in her heat crossing the line in 14.58 seconds

Next up was Matthew Mifsud. The sole athlete from Brunswick Secondary College, Mifsud competed in the U18 boys section of the 100 metres and 200 metres. In a blanket finish, where only 0.20 of a second separated fifth from ninth, Mifsud posted a personal best in the 100 metres with 11.69 seconds. In the 200 metres, Mifsud finished sixth in his heat for 24.12 seconds into a strong headwind

Michael Dziadkiewicz also competed in the U18 boys section for his school EKC.  Dziadkiewicz crossed the line in 11.61 seconds

And Celeste White, a member of the 2008 Athletics Victoria/Victorian Institute of Sport Development Squad, represented Assumption College in the 200 metres and her pet event the 400 metres. We start with the 200 metres, where White ran very well to finish fifth in her heat in 27.39 seconds and go through to the final eighth fastest. In the final, held quite late in the evening, White ran 27.79 to finish in eighth place. In the 400 metres, White ran very close to her personal best with 62.52, missing out on fourth place by 100th of a second!

Well done to all our athletes who represented themselves and their school with pride. Looks like some big performances to come over the 2008/09 summer track & field season
