Welcome to the Coburg Harriers Club. After a successful 2010/11 track & field season, with our U18 men crowned North West region champions - the club's Winter Cross Country & Road squad are gearing up for their 2011 season. The club's men are looking forward to their first season in Division 2, our women's team have been bolstered by the return of key athletes and we have more juniors competing this winter than for many years. Join our casual training group or compete at our very popular monthly fun runs to be part of the fun!

STEVENS. - The family and friends of Mr Harold Maitland Stevens are warmly invited to celebrate his life at St Alban's Anglican Church, cnr Gordon and Reynard St, Coburg West on Monday Sep 19 2011 commencing at 10 am. No flowers by request. Private Cremation.

Harold Stevens joined the Coburg Harriers in 1945. As an athlete, he won premierships with Coburg in 1945/46 and 1946/47. He was part of the Olympic Training Squad for the 1948, 1952 and 1956 Games and won championships through the late ‘40s. He competed until 1989.

Harold joined the committee at Coburg Harriers in 1953. He was president of the club for 13 years, starting in 1963, Cross Country Captain for 7 years and treasurer for a number of years as well. He founded both the Coburg Fun Runners weekly competition in 1984 and the

Coburg Veteran’s weekly competition in 1986. Harold was also president of the Coburg Little Athletics Centre for three years.

Beginning in 1955, Harold acted as a track marshal and umpire. He was Clerk of Course for the Modern Pentathlon Cross Country Course at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. From 1969
until 1985 he was a Track Manager at Coburg, Collingwood, Preston and University. Harold was also involved with Veterans Athletics as a team manager, referee and competition director.

In 1993 Harold was awarded the Order of Australia medal for his services to Athletics and in 1999 he was made a Life Member of Athletics Victoria.

Harold will be sorely missed by the Coburg Harriers and the Athletics Victoria community.

What we can Offer :

  • Masters (Veterans) competition on Thursday nights from 7.15 pm (see below)
  • Monthly Fun Runs just $15 or $10 for members. Conditions apply (see below)
  • Fully stocked gymnasium with showers
  • Clubrooms with kitchen facilities available for hire

Coaching :

  • Sprint coaching available from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm four nights a week
  • Middle distance/endurance coaching available from 6:00 pm Tuesday & Thursday
  • Throws coaching available in a number of disciplines. Contact for more details
  • Access to coaching in other disciplines available upon request

  • Qualified accredited coaches
  • Vibrant winter club program on measured cross country & road courses
  • Organised pack runs, training programs and advice
  • Athletes compete for club's Dr Marshall Shield
  • Trophy Presentation Night at end of season

Masters (Veterans)
  • Thursday evenings from 7.15 pm
  • Novices encouraged; Run, Walk or Jog. All Levels of ability
  • For men and women aged 30 years or over
  • Encouragement from experienced athletes
  • Opportunity to achieve your personal best
  • Great social atmosphere, Fun, Fitness, Friendship
